Water is a guarantee for sustainable development

Prishtina, 05.11 - “Water is the fundament of sustainable development. Water sources and a great number of services they provide support the decrease of poverty, stimulate economic growth and environmental sustainability, while contributing to improved social welfare,” said Deputy-Minister of Economic Development Besa Zogaj-Gashi, during the third Balkans Conference and Exhibition on “Water and Sustainable Development”.

On this occasion, Deputy-Minister Zogaj-Gashi said that according to available data, almost one third of global population enjoys no access to drinkable water, whereas 2.5 billion inhabitants have no access to appropriate sewage systems. Moreover, it is expected that in the following years, especially for developing countries, water supply problems will grow, as a consequence of climate changes and global population increase. She said that the Government of Kosovo remains committed to treat at great seriousness the issue of water and water supply for citizens, by providing investments in this aspect.

The conference was organized by the Water and Sewage Association of Kosovo (SHUKOS) and Water and Sewage Association of Albania (SHUKALB), in partnership with associations from Macedonia and Montenegro.
