Hydro Power Plant “Brodi 2” in Dragash inaugurated today

Prishtina 26 Nov – The Government of Republic of Kosovo is dedicated to ensuring proper development of energy from renewable sources, as a prerequisite for sustainable economic development, said Deputy-Minister of Economic Development Besa Zogaj-Gashi, during the inauguration of the first Hydro Power Plant “Brodi 2” in village Mlikë of Dragash Municipality.

Gashi said that this hydro power plant is a good investment which will affect the development and welfare of citizens of this region.

Gashi informed that the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), in cooperation with USAID and the World Bank, is working in ensuring the facilitation in the process of granting permits or licenses requested by companies which wish to invest in Kosovo.

For his part, Deputy-Minister of Education, Usmen Ballxhi, called upon investors to come to this municipality, since, according to him, it provides the conditions and capacities necessary to implement projects that impact the lives of citizens of this municipality.

On the other hand, Yll Shamolli, representative of “Eurokos JH” company, expressed his gratitude to all entities supporting this project: MED, MESP, ERO, Dragash Municipality and KEDS, and said that the project comprises a Slovenian-Kosovar investment and encompasses 5 hydro power plants with a value of 16 million euro.

Shaban Shabani, Chairperson of the Municipal Assembly of Dragash, said that such investments improve the wellbeing of citizens, and therefore invited investor to continue to help the municipality.

Of note, the project strives to meet European standards of electricity generation from renewable energy sources, while promoting a healthy and ecological life and refraining from environmental hazards, and providing sustainable economic and environmental development.
